Saperavi is a grape variety native of Georgia. It produces very deep red wines suitable for ageing, with the potential to produce high alcohol levels. It is often blended with other varieties. A hardy grape variety which can be grown at high altitude and can handle extremely cold weather. It is a teinturier grape containing the red anthocyanin within the grape pulp as well as the skin and is unususal in being one of the very few grapes used in sigle-varietal winemaking.
